A long lunch and high tea destination on the beachfront at Mindarie. Shared tables at our coastal restaurant Sandara, tiered stands and sparkling on the deck, and afternoons that stretch until the sun drops into the Indian Ocean.
Some occasions do not fit into a dinner slot. Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, client lunches, bridal showers, or a Saturday that simply deserves better. Sandara sets the coastal table for slow afternoons, an easy run up the freeway from Perth and a world away from the usual function room. Modern Australian menus with an earth-to-ocean ethos, Western Australian wines, and nobody hovering with the bill while the stories are still going.
Family-style plates built on WA produce. Coastal seafood, responsibly sourced meats and seasonal vegetables, shaped by Asian and Mediterranean rhythms. Lunch that runs to sunset.
Tiered stands, delicate savouries and native-inspired sweets, with sparkling, tea or both. A high tea that swaps the hotel lobby for the Indian Ocean.
Cocktails and canapes on the covered alfresco deck. Small bites with big provenance, and the ocean handling the entertainment.
Celebratory and comforting at once. The punch of Asian aromatics, the calm of the Mediterranean and the clarity of Australian ingredients, on one table by the sea.
Perth does not have enough places built for the long lunch, the kind where the entrees land at one and the last coffee happens at sunset. Sandara was designed for exactly that. A dining room on the water at Mindarie, a menu that moves at the table’s pace, and a team that treats the afternoon as the main event rather than the gap before dinner service.
It suits milestone birthdays and anniversaries, client and team lunches that need more warmth than a boardroom, bridal showers and engagement celebrations, Mother’s Day gatherings and Christmas in July style feasts. High tea afternoons bring tiered stands, scones, native-flavoured sweets and sparkling to the same view.
Menus are modern Australian with WA provenance. Coastal seafood, responsibly sourced meats, seasonal vegetables and native ingredients like saltbush, wattle seed and lemon myrtle, served plated, family-style or as canapes on the deck. Tell the events team the occasion and they will set the table to match.
Sandara’s event dining runs on clear per-person packages built around the seasonal events menu. Two-course plated lunches start at $85 per person, with a choice-of-mains format at $100 per person. Three-course packages are $105 per person with a set dessert, or $120 per person with a choice of dessert, and every plated package includes warm bread rolls, tea and coffee.
The mains carry the coastal signature: grilled barramundi with confit tomato and Geraldton wax beurre blanc, Australian beef fillet with wild mushroom jus, saltbush-rubbed lamb rack, or lemon myrtle roast chicken. Desserts run from wattle seed pavlova with native fruit compote to white chocolate and Kakadu plum cheesecake.
Standing afternoons work on a cocktail and canape reception format instead, with a choice of savoury canapes, substantial bites and sweet bites passed through the afternoon. Tell the events team the occasion and your numbers and they will match the package to it.
Sandara’s menus move between plated courses, family-style sharing and canape service, so the format fits the occasion rather than the other way around. Long tables are the house speciality.
Ocean light, natural textures and the dunes beyond the glass. The room looks celebratory before a single centrepiece lands, and the covered deck extends the afternoon outdoors.
Group lunches, high teas and private afternoons are planned with one coordinator. Menus, drinks, cakes, timing and the wet-weather call, all handled before anyone sits down.
When the long lunch really lands, nobody wants to drive home. Dunes Beach Resort’s 38 luxury glamping tents sleep up to 86 guests, a short walk from the table, so the afternoon can become a weekend.
