The Venue
Dunes Beach Resort can host events for 250 or more guests across the day, with three connected spaces that can be used together or separately depending on the format of the day.
Where exactly would the wedding be?
On the coast at Mindarie. There are three spaces: a lawn area, an alfresco deck and an indoor function room, all on the one beachfront property. Most couples use the lawn for the ceremony and the room and deck for everything after.
How far will guests have to travel?
Roughly 30 minutes north of the CBD via the Mitchell Freeway. Far enough that it feels like a proper day out of the city, close enough that nobody needs to take the Friday off.
How many guests can we have?
The site holds 250 or more guests for day events. Smaller numbers work too, since the spaces can be used separately rather than all at once.
Where does the ceremony happen?
On the lawn, with the ocean behind you. See the weddings page for how the space is usually set.
Where does the reception happen?
In the function room, on the alfresco deck, or across both. The deck keeps the view for pre dinner drinks and the room takes the seated part of the night.
How is the room laid out for a sit down dinner?
Banquet style is the usual choice for a seated reception. The room can also be set theatre, boardroom, U-shape or classroom, which matters less for a wedding but is worth knowing if you are also running a welcome event. Layouts are on the function room page.
What happens if the weather turns?
The function room is indoors and the alfresco zones are shaded, so the reception has cover regardless. Worth talking through with our team when you pick a date.

Food and Drinks
Who does the catering?
Sandara, the restaurant and bar on the same site. Nothing needs to be brought in and nothing needs to travel.Can guests have drinks outside with the view?
Yes. The open air seating and shaded alfresco zones both look over the water, and the aspect faces west, so a late afternoon ceremony puts the sunset behind the drinks. Details are on the Sandara Dine & Drink page.Where Your Guests Stay
Can guests stay on site?
There are 38 luxury glamping tents on the property, sleeping up to 86 people. For a wedding 30 minutes out of town, that removes most of the transport problem.
What is in the tents?
A queen bed with premium linen, a private ensuite, a private timber deck with ocean views, a mini fridge, and tea and coffee facilities. Categories are Ocean Front, Deluxe, Family, Hill Top and UAT. More on the beachfront accommodation page.
Can we stay the night ourselves?
Yes, in any of the categories. Ocean Front has uninterrupted 180 degree sea views if you want the better outlook for the morning after.
Smaller Weddings and Other Questions
Can we do an elopement or a micro wedding?
Yes. The lawn works just as well for a handful of people, and dinner afterwards can simply be a table at Sandara rather than a full reception.
Can our dog be part of the ceremony?
Dogs are welcome at wedding ceremonies with prior approval. They cannot stay overnight in the tents, so plan for someone to take them home after the ceremony.
Can we hold the engagement party or hens weekend here too?
The same spaces are used for engagements, hens parties and birthdays, and groups can book across multiple tents. The events page covers what else runs on site.
